Advancements in technology have allowed production of an MRI scanner that uses superconducting coils. These superconducting coils generate a magnetic field that is three times the strength of current MRI coils, allowing radiologists to view structures in the brain that have never been viewed before!
Once considered an experimental device, MRIs are now a common tool in medical diagnostics. An MRI uses high-powered magnetic fields and radio waves to send pictures of the internal structures of your body to a computer, through the use of magnetic coils. The computer then generates extremely detailed images of these structures, enabling medical professionals to view multiple levels of a patient’s anatomy.
These new technological advances in superconducting coils have made even clearer magnetic resonance images (MRIs) possible. With this recent breakthrough, higher resolution images are possible – meaning more accurate diagnoses and an opportunity for diseases such as cancer to be caught earlier than ever. The superconducting coil MRI significantly shortens the time it takes to run the scan, especially if a high-resolution image is not necessary for larger anatomical structures.
At Independent Imaging, we are very excited to inform you of this advance in medical technology. While this MRI scanner is still being tested, we hope to offer it in the future as it becomes available. As always, we provide you with the most advanced and sophisticated imaging technology available today. Call us for your medical imaging needs at (561) 795-5558 or request an appointment online.
