MRI
MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is an advanced diagnostic imaging procedure that creates detailed images of internal body structures without the use of ionized radiation (X-rays). MRI is able to produce these detailed images through the use of a powerful magnet, radio waves, and a computer. MRI assists physicians in diagnosing disease or other abnormalities in very early stages.
At Independent Imaging in Palm Beach County, our fellowship-trained radiologists prefer the GE Signa EXCITE 11.0 MRI scanner. This scanner operates at a higher field strength, producing extremely detailed scans and clear images. Not only does this technology improve image quality, it has unprecedented scanning speed.
Breast MRI
Our breast MRI offers VIBRANT (Volume Imaging for Breast Assessment), which provides high-definition bilateral breast imaging in one exam with the GE Signa EXCITE MRI.
Open, High-Field MRI
Our open MRI unit in Wellington is ideal for patients who are claustrophobic, obese, or suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome, as well as pediatric patients.
Non-Contrast MRA
In the past, high risk patients, particularly those who are renal-compromised, were not eligible for an MRA due to the potential risk associated with the contrast agent. Now, Independent Imaging offers a diagnostic tool that eliminates the risk while allowing physicians to clearly visualize vascular structures and flowing blood in a high-performance machine with advanced applications.
What to Expect During an MRI Scan
- If you cannot lie still for 30-60 minutes at a time due to pain and/or anxiety, please inquire in advance about taking sedation or pain medication prior to your procedure. Additional preparation instructions are listed here: Preparing for an MRI
- A typical MRI procedure will last 30-60 minutes, depending on the area of the body to be scanned and the specific procedure requested by your physician.
- Your physician will have access to your images and the radiologist’s report promptly, generally within 24 to 48 hours.
