Your body is a temple, so it’s important to treat it right by eating healthy, exercising, and getting plenty of sleep to properly recover after a hard day’s work. What you probably don’t think about on a daily basis is how important it is to do routine maintenance. It’s important to schedule routine health checkups to make sure everything is working properly internally, even if everything seems okay on the outside.
At Independent Imaging, we believe that having an annual mammogram is a necessary preventive care checkup. Our board-certified radiologists use diagnostic imaging equipment to check inside of your breasts for any abnormalities that could indicate the onset of breast cancer.
The addition of new 3D mammography technology, in combination with traditional 2D technology, has proven to increase overall breast cancer detection by approximately 10 to 30 percent. The ability to view the breast tissue in 3D gives your radiologist a much better view of the fine details, allowing them to view each thin layer of the overall picture individually.
The increase of clarity and accuracy that comes with the 3D picture means that there will be less of a chance of being called back for further imaging later on. It also means greater peace of mind for you, the patient, since your results will be more accurate.
While guidelines are diverse when it comes to the specific age one should begin screening for breast cancer, the general consensus is that the earlier you start, the better. That’s why the American Medical Association (AMA) announced four years ago that age 40 is the best time to begin – 10 years earlier than previously thought. The AMA has determined that women should have a screening at least once every two years until age 49, then every year after that.
The best part about preventive care is that it reassures you that your body is healthy, or it alerts your radiologist of abnormalities as soon as possible. The second best part is that your insurance plan will most likely cover the entire cost, just because you took the time to get checked out!
We strive to make sure that your experience during a mammogram is as comfortable as possible. Patients will find our 3D mammography services to be just as private, compassionate, and complete as with our traditional mammography. The overall process only takes a few seconds longer than traditional, and with those few seconds you will receive a superior image quality and greater peace of mind.
